It’s early still for berry harvests, farmers’ markets and CSA boxes, but it’s never too soon to make sure that you and your home kitchen are prepared to make the most of our short and fabulous growing season in New England. Become a food waste warrior with an evening at Orange Door Kitchen learning about food preservation with master-canner Afton Cyrus, owner of the Arlington-based Jam Sessions. Not only will she demystify the process of making shelf-stable jams at home, but she’ll also share some of America’s Test Kitchen tried and true formulas with you for preserving the delicious fruits of summer for enjoyment year-round. Afton is known for her creative flavor combinations, so the evening will include small bites and a glass of wine that pair perfectly with her jams! You’ll take home some Jam Sessions jam and have the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of Foolproof Preserving for your cookbook collection!

Tickets are $65 and include Afton’s expert demo, heavy appetizers, a glass of wine, and some jam to take home.

By day, Afton Cyrus is an Associate Editor at America's Test Kitchen, where she has developed recipes for a series of award-winning cookbooks, including Bread Illustrated, Foolproof Preserving, and the New York Times bestselling Complete Cookbook for Young Chefs. By night and weekend, she operates Jam Sessions in Arlington, MA, through which she makes small-batch, locally-sourced jams and jellies, and teaches home canning workshops and classes. She aims to inspire home cooks of all ages to get creating and preserving in the kitchen with New England's abundance of fresh, local ingredients.
